The ABA Section of Litigation’s Class Actions and Derivative Suits (CADS) Committee is co-sponsoring a program at the University of San Francisco School of Law with an exciting collection of talent this June 19: Who’s in Charge Here?: The Role of Lawyers, Clients, Insurers, and Judges in Class Actions and Mass Tort Litigation.
I am Co-Chairing the program along with Paul Karlsgodt of Denver, and also moderating a panel discussion entitled “Whose Class Is It, Anyway?” Judge Jon Tigar of the Northern District of California; Prof. Joshua Davis of the Univ. of San Francisco School of Law; Jocelyn Larkin of the Impact Fund in Berkeley; and Rosemarie Ring of Munger, Tolles are joining me on the panel.
The ABA mass torts and consumer law committees are co-sponsors. I am especially excited about a program I developed and organized based on an idea originating with Judge Jack Weinstein, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York: “Judicial Quasi-Class Actions.” Judge Alvin Hellerstein, “the 9/11 Judge” of the Eastern District of New York; Sheila Birnbaum of Quinn, Emmanuel; and Prof. Deborah Hensler of Stanford Law School are also participating. Lunch will be provided, and there will be a cocktail hour after the panel presentations for networking. Check out the brochure.
