As the former head of the class-action practice of a major Midwestern-based law firm and through his ongoing service on the planning committee and faculty of the American Bar Association’s preeminent class action forum, the National Institute on Class Actions, Mr. McGuinness has been recognized as one of the top class action litigators in Michigan and the country. He authored and co-teaches the ABA course “Class Actions 101” presented annually in conjunction with the Institute, and is sought out to work with litigators around the country on class action matters. Mr. McGuinness frequently teams with a client’s primary outside counsel in significant matters. While his practice is national in scope he has most frequently appeared in federal  and local courts in Michigan and Chicago, Illinois. His extensive experience in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, and his active participation in the local federal bar, have made him a valuable partner to out-of-state clients and co-counsel with matters pending in these courts.  He has tried cases and arbitration matters throughout Michigan, and has been recognized by clients and colleagues as a skillful and effective negotiator as well as one of the top antitrust litigators in the state.
